THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA WHEN LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB/CAREER OR JUST TRYING TO NETWORK – USING LINKEDIN CAN CREATE YOUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT.

So… you signed up on LinkedIn, have created a profile, but nothing is happening. You are not getting the job opportunities that you were expecting.  Have you made mistakes on your profile or are you missing something important? Here are some tips you can do to use LinkedIn more effectively.

1. Spruce Up a Boring Headline

The headline, appearing directly under your name on your LinkedIn profile, shows up whenever your profile comes up in a search. Ensure that it says something interesting that will make someone want to learn more about you?

You are the product that you need to sell, so consider your headline as an opportunity to sell your value to anyone who comes across your profile. If the headline is a job title, it’s unlikely to be captivating, so include words that people will use when they search for someone. Also, a promise of something you will do for them will entice them to read on. When you incorporate what you will do for them, your profile will stand out above others.

2. See Who’s Viewed Your Profile

Under the “Profile” tab, scroll to “Who’s Viewed Your Profile.” Even with a free account, you can see some of the people who have checked out your profile. If you can see their name, you can ask them to connect with you.

3. Connect with Alumni

LinkedIn’s most successful users engage and interact with contacts and colleagues. Under the “Network” tab: Find Alumni. It’s a great opportunity to easily connect with people who share your alma mater.

4. Professionally written Profiles

Consider having your LinkedIn profile written and optimized by a professional to increase your networking ability. Many recruiters, headhunters and hiring managers use LinkedIn profiles to either verify or supplement resume information.

Research has shown that recruiters spend an average of 19% of their time viewing your picture alone on your LinkedIn profile. (Ensure that your picture is professional!).

Resume Resolution can create a professional personal or business branding profile for you to help you get noticed and market yourself in this age of technology.
